Italian Home Decor

Italian Home Decor can have a very large range of styles, from classic renaissance interiors to ultra modern. Although there is a huge range of style in Italy, when one thinks of Italian Home Decor they are usually referring to a rustic or country theme... think about a wine country villa or Tuscany. We are going to focus mainly on the wine country rustic cottage/villa for this Italian Home Decor synopsis.

Let's first start with the walls. Nothing says Tuscany like a faux paint treatment using calming tans, yellows, oranges, and browns. Rich earthy tones work best. Gradating the paint color from light to dark on the walls brings in a beautiful sunset for that cozy comfort. Another popular wall element, if budget allows, is the use of a mural depicting beautiful rolling hills and wine country. Strategically placed art in the same aesthetic can work just as well as a wall mural.

Moving from the walls to the floor you want something that reflects a natural aesthetic such as a distressed hard wood or a stone tile. Rotating between wood and stone to help separate rooms and entry ways.

The furnishings should say comfort and style. Looks for colors that mesh with the walls and floor. Large chairs, sofas, and dining areas (hard wood tables and chairs or benches).

For accessories, the use of wrought iron work on the walls speaks to the wine country theme. The accessories are really where you want to introduce some vibrant colors such as blue, yellow, green, and red. Add vases, bowls, and pitchers with splashes of bright color. Use candle holders and wall sconces to bring soft light into the room. Pillows are not just for the bedroom and are a good way to introduce patterns into your living space. Mix and match pillow patterns such as stripes and floral using Italian Home Decor color scheme. Old pottery with cracks and distressed paint is a great way to add elements to the floor space.
